Brighton snap up Yeovil Town teenager Joseph Tomlinson

BRIGHTON have completed the signing of Joseph Tomlinson from Yeovil Town.

The 17-year-old defender will link up with the Under-23 squad on July 1 after signing on a free transfer.

Brighton Under-23 coach Simon Rusk said: “We are delighted to welcome Joseph to the club.
“He is a talented young defender who has progressed well at Yeovil, and will strengthen our defensive options going into the new season.
“I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses, and we are keen to contribute towards his future development as a footballer.”

The Brighton website reports that Tomlinson arrived at Yeovil in May 2016 on a scholarship deal, and has been part of the Glovers’ under-18 squad for the past two seasons.

He began his club career at Southampton and was part of the club’s under-15 academy side that reached the Milk Cup Final in 2015.

Tomlinson generally plays as a left-back but had been used higher up the field.

During the closing stages of last season he scored two hat-tricks in consecutive home fixtures.

But that wasn’t enough to persuade the Glovers to award him with a professional deal.

Instead, he will move on to the Amex.
