British champion Steve Cummings tumbles over handlebars in ugly crash at Tour de France as Chris Froome extends lead in Yellow Jersey
BRITAIN’S Steve Cummings took a nasty tumble on one of the Tour de France’s toughest stages as he flew over his handlebars and into a grassy field.
The British champion went head over heels as he attempted to avoid a crash in stage 17 of the three-week Grand Tour as Chris Froome put one hand on ANOTHER win.

Cummings, 36, won stages on the last two editions of the famous race.
But today was bumped and bruised after attempting to brake into a grassy field before flipping over his handlebars.
He went off the road, down a grassy bank but hit a bump in the turf and careered head over heels a few times at speed before coming to a halt.
Elsewhere in the same crash, 102 miles from the end of the stage that went over Col du Galibier in the Alps, sprinter Marcel Kittel had to abandon.
The German carried on after hitting his shoulder but his team Quick-Step confirmed he had climbed off his bike and will not make it to Paris.
Meanwhile Froome rode superbly up the highest climb in this year’s race as he put a big time gap between himself and main rival Fabio Aru.
Froome, 32, was marshalled up the Galibier by Mikel Landa, but used his brilliant descending skills to extend the gap to Aru from 18 seconds to 53sec.

The Kenya-born Brit is now 27sec ahead of former Sky team-mate Rigoberto Uran and AG2R’s Romain Bardet on the same time.
Aru is in fourth, 53sec back but the race has another tough Tour de France stage in the Izoard on Thursday.
