Brown: I don’t care if Barca are full of superstars, that was unacceptable

SEETHING Celtic captain Scott Brown has branded the Nou Camp humbling as “unacceptable”.

And Brown — mortified by the 7-0 defeat to Barcelona — won’t use the quality of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez as an excuse for the Hoops’ heaviest-ever Euro defeat.

The midfielder has insisted no Celtic side should ever be hammered like they were by Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Brown blasted: “I do think it’s unacceptable. We’ve been to Barcelona before and got beaten 2-1, 1-0 and there’s also been a 6-1.

“But the way we played was not our best performance and we’ve let ourselves down.

“But we can’t just write a result like this off because of how good Barcelona are.

“We’re in a hard group and if we think like that already then we’re not going to score any goals or win any games.

“We need to start thinking and focus better during the games and work harder as a team on and off the park.”

Celts stars looked ashen-faced walking to the team bus on Tuesday night — just three days after they were buzzing in the wake of the 5-1 destruction of Rangers.

And asked if there had been post-match dressing room anger, a terse Brown hinted there had been strong words.

He said: “What happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room. That’s all I’m saying.”

Celts are at Inverness on Sunday in the Premiership and host Manchester City in their next Champions League game on September 28.

And Hoops defender Erik Sviatchenko has vowed they’ll recover from the record defeat against the La Liga superstars.

The Danish defender said: “It’s always a bit embarrassing to lose by seven. I believe that we have the mentality to bounce back.”
