Canadian pair Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir win Winter Olympic figure skating gold… despite toning down their ‘porno’ routine

CANADIAN figure skating pair Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir took home the Winter Olympic gold after toning down their routine deemed ‘too sexy’.

After competing at the Canadian Skating Nationals earlier this month, the duo had to change their Moulin Rouge-inspired routine after it was believed to be too raunchy.

And with Virtue’s legs wrapped around Moir’s neck for most of the performance, it doesn’t look like they got the memo.

When asked by the press after the nationals what he thought of his routine, Moir simply replied by saying “porno”.

Speaking to the Star, Virtue said of their previous performance: “I think edgy would probably summarize most of the program quite well and that’s what we were going for.

“We knew that taking the ice at an Olympic Games again meant that we needed to have a different style.

“We wanted to make a bit of a different statement. If that was bringing an edge or sexuality or darkness, or a contemporary feel to it, then mission accomplished I guess.”

Though they altered their dance slightly, the duo still raced to their second gold medal in the Winter Olympics after winning in the ice dancing event in 2010.

Canada finished seven points clear at the top of the team standings, beating Russia who had to settle with silver, and USA who took home the bronze.

As well as Moir and Virtue, the team consisted of Eric Radford, Meagan Duhamel, Kaetlyn Osmond, Gabrielle Daleman and Patrick Chan.

When asked by the Star about the change of routine, Moir, 30 said: “What it came down to actually was that when we slowed it down and looked on the video, it wasn’t aesthetically that beautiful of a position.

“So we wanted to change it, make it a little bit better.”

Virtue added: “I think we liked that it made a statement, and it was different.

“And that was great for the start of the season. But for the overall vision of the program, we hope that this new position fits a little better.”
