And he quickly agreed terms with his boyhood club to end a miserable spell in China.

A Shenhua statement said: “The club would like to place on record our gratitude to Tevez for his contributions last season and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

But Tevez left Asia under a cloud after failing to live up to his astonishing £615,000-a-week wages – scoring just four times in 16 league games.

Titan Sport’s Ma Dexing, one of China’s leading football journalists, told ESPN FC: “His performances were disappointing for many Chinese fans.

“I’m not really sure what he did that was good for the club or for football in China.

“I think he thought it would be easy and he said some things that weren’t good for the club as well.

“You could see from the beginning that so many fans expected he could do something for the club, but in the first match they lost against Brisbane Roar in the AFC Champions League.

“And after that Shanghai Shenhua went down. He got so much money, but he didn’t prove that he deserved it.”

Boca refused to deal directly with Shenhua – forcing Tevez‘s representatives to convince the club’s lawyers to agree to his release.

It is believed Boca have handed him a two-year contract.
