CASTLEFORD are lining up a swoop for Salford star Mark Flanagan.
The forward has been impressive as the Red Devils have surprised many as they sit third in Super League.
But the 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and so far has not agreed an extension, despite talks.
That has alerted Daryl Powell’s league leaders as they attempt to draw up plans, despite going for double glory this year.
Salford are also heavily linked with a move for English-born Parramatta prop James Hasson and Todd Carney continues to be linked with a move to Leigh.
But even if Flanagan, who has been mostly used at loose forward, does agree terms it is likely it will not be with Salford.
For SunSport has learned a name change to Manchester Red Devils is a step closer.
A survey of supporters has been launched and it is believed focus groups and further talks are planned.
But it is understood owner Marwan Koukash is keen to change Salford’s name to their neighbouring city, a move which would end almost 150 years of history.
It is thought that giving themselves a new title would open up potential ties to many big businesses in Manchester.
However, any switch would cause uproar, especially when huge businesses with bases in Salford are spreading.
MediaCity, the development at Salford Quays which saw large parts of the BBC move north, is set to double in size in the near future.
WSP, a multi-million pound electrical and civil engineering firm, also has a base in the city, as do healthcare giants Bupa.
Sale Sharks RU, who share the AJ Bell Stadium with Salford, have tried to make in-roads into Manchester in the past.
They have a shirt sponsorship agreement with the Spinningfields development in the city and their main agreement with Manchester-based broadband firm UK Fast is worth almost £700,000-a-season.
And their holding company, but not the team, is called Manchester Sale.
