Chelsea boss Antonio Conte turns down Real Madrid to stick with Chelsea contract as search for Zinedine Zidane replacement continues

ANTONIO CONTE has turned down the opportunity to become Real Madrid’s new manager, according to reports in Italy.

The Chelsea boss is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after frequent fall-outs with the board and players.

But he will not be stepping into the shoes of Zinedine Zidane, who resigned from Real Madrid after winning a third successive Champions League trophy last month.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Madrid have made contact with Conte but he is refusing to negotiate.

The former Juventus manager won the Premier League in his first season in English football and then the FA Cup in May after what was a turbulent campaign.

And while many expect him to depart the club this summer, it is believed he is holding out for a severance package of £9million which he wouldn’t be entitled to if he jumped ship.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has also been reported as a target, as well as Juventus’ Massimiliano Allegri.

But Madrid may instead turn to another former player.

According to Segunda B Group Four side Murcia’s president, Victor Galvez, former Madrid midfielder Guti, 41, will take over.

He claimed: “Guti will be the coach of Real Madrid so he won’t coach Murcia.

“I wish Zidane had stayed for two more days so that we could’ve completed the deal for Guti.”
