Chelsea defender Baba Rahman in Schalke loan talks as injury-hit Blues prepare to offload another player

SCHALKE have confirmed they’re in talks to sign Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman on loan for a second consecutive season.

Despite being hit by a injury and suspension crisis, made worse by a number of big-money sales, Chelsea appear happy to continue ship out youngsters who fans believe could make an impression in the first-team squad.

Rahman spent one unimpressive season at Stamford Bridge before being sent out to Germany on loan last year.

But his adventure was cut short after six months when he suffered a devastating cruciate ligament injury.

And despite still being some way off full fitness, Schalke are ready to return with another bid which will really leave Chelsea light on numbers.

Sporting director Christian Heidel told their website: “We are in talks with the player, his agent and Chelsea.

“Ultimately, it is about when Baba will be able to play again. No decision has been made yet.”

Should he leave, Rahman will become the second left-back to depart the Blues after Nathan Ake.

Brazilian ace Kenedy appears set to join Newcastle for the season too, meaning Chelsea must be confident of making a signing to challenge Marcos Alonso before the window closes shut.

Antonio Conte has found his attempts to sign Alex Sandro rebuffed by Juventus so far.

The Brazilian is believed to be valued at over £60million by his club but isn’t believed to be overly keen on a Stamford Bridge switch.

Danny Rose has also emerged as a target but Tottenham are unwilling to sell to their fierce London rivals.
