But The Daily Star claims that he has agreed to have another crack at winning Championship promotion with his old Blues team-mate.

Lampard took charge of the Rams on Thursday on a three-year deal.

And the ex-England midfielder was immediately asked about a possible reunion with his ex-Stamford Bridge captain and close friend JT.

The 39-year-old said: “I had conversations with him this season about how he was getting on and about the Championship. He will definitely be there for me. We are close.”

Derby’s top paid players are only on around half of that and owner Mel Morris has confirmed he wants to cut costs.

RON RETURN Ex-Madrid boss says ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wants to go back to Man United and play for Jose Mourinho’

He said: “It’s impossible to spend at the level we have year after year after year. Financial Fair Play is very real, we take it very seriously, and we’ve even been a big advocate of FFP.

“So it’s time to bring our house in order in that regard. But as Frank has said, it’s time to try to look at doing that while seeing if we can progress at the same time.”
