Stamford Bridge chiefs see him as the eventual successor to John Terry and his performances whilst out on loan have caught the eye of Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
According to the Standard, Antonio Conte has already earmarked a position in next year’s squad for the young Dane.
But the German side are keen to keep hold of a player who has established himself as a key cog in their defensive unit.

Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said: “I can’t imagine that Chelsea would sell him to us, but maybe we can loan him for another one or two years? If he was with us for three to four whole years, that would be a great story.
Our pledge is that Andreas feels comfortable with us and always reaches his goals. If Chelsea cannot offer him that, we might have a chance to have him with us even longer.”
