Chelsea will be the Premier League club most affected by a ‘hard Brexit’ – with 76 per cent of their goals scored by EU nationals

CHELSEA will be the Premier League club most affected by Brexit as they have relied heavily on players from the EU this season.

The Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50 today which sees Britain formally leave the European Union – 44 years after joining.

In addition to that, 74% of the players fielded by the West Londoners are either an EU national or hold a second EU nationality – 15% more than second-placed Manchester City.

In total, EU nationals have made a staggering 222 Premier League appearances for the 2014/15 English champions, while players like Luiz who are from outside Europe but hold dual nationality have added an extra 73 games to that total.

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea boast the highest percentage of goals scored by players in the EU, with 45 of their 58 being scored by EU nationals.

Middlesbrough are the second most affected team in the goals scored category - 74% of their league total have been netted by EU nationals, followed by Manchester United with 71%, Manchester City with 62% and Swansea City with 61%.
