Copa America to be MOVED to the same time as Euro 2020 in bid to appease big European clubs
THE Copa America is set to be MOVED to the same years as the European Championships in a bid to appease the big European clubs.
Fifa have also backed the move to have the 2020 South American international championships staged at the same time as Euro 2020.
The tournament is to be held in Brazil in 2019, but USA are set to host another tournament in 2020, as the calendar gets set for another re-jig.

But the Copa America has not hit a regular pattern in recent years, there were competitions every two years in the 90s, but since the millennium, there have been a tournament in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2016 and the next is set for 2019.
The United States are set to host the tournament in 2020 with Ecuador set to host in 2023, but there are not details as to how the tournament will be hosted around a World Cup year, with the 2022 global tournament happening in Qatar.
According to Globo Esporte, the big European clubs are keen to have their international stars all released during one summer rather than consecutively.
