Crewe take cover in child abuse scandal as they fail to address issue during game against Crawley
CREWE may have become a dirty word after the club found itself at the centre of football’s child abuse scandal.
But on the first real occasion that they had the chance to address the issue — at home against Crawley on Saturday — nobody at Gresty Road appeared willing to talk.

There was no mention in the matchday programme of ex-Alex players Andrew Woodward and Steve Walters, both alleged victims of former Crewe youth coach Barry Bennell.
And director Dario Gradi, who was manager at the club for 26 years, was nowhere to be seen.

Ex-Chelsea No 2 Gradi, 75, will be interviewed by the FA over accusations he helped “smooth over” claims of sexual assault on a youngster by Blues youth coach Eddie Heath in the 70s.
He has insisted he knew nothing of what may have taken place while in charge at Crewe but has refused to discuss the matter further.
And there were claims before yesterday’s 2-0 loss that he had not been spotted at the club for several days.
Even an appeal by fans’ website Crewe MAD for the club to be more transparent about the scandal seemed to fall on deaf ears.
The only noise within Gresty Road came from the 3,319 home supporters, who booed the team as they fell to defeat.
Manager Steve Davis also refused to appear before the media afterwards.
