CRISTIANO RONALDO is in pole position for his fifth Ballon d’Or award – and could not resist trolling Lionel Messi over it.
The Real Madrid striker scored twice as the La Liga champions lifted the Champions League for the second season in a row on Saturday.
And after leading his side to their record-breaking 12th European trophy, Ronaldo is now the favourite to be named the world’s best player again this season.
Winning the award would also put him level with long-term rival Messi in being given the prize.
And Ronaldo’s recent activity on social media site Instagram seems to show he has not forgot that he could equal the Barcelona talisman.
One snap posted shows the Argentinian presenting the trophy to Ronaldo who is seen celebrating.

And Ronaldo liked the picture to the delight of his fans around the world.
The former Manchester United striker was back in Madrid yesterday to celebrate with his team-mates after their 4-1 trouncing of Juventus.
Ron – who was sporting a new haircut for the event – even took to the stage to sing ‘Ronaldo, Balon d’Or’ with the fans.
But the Euro 2016 winner will have to wait until December to see if his prediction comes true and he equals Messi.
Ronaldo, 32, said: “It was a spectacular end to the season with La Liga and the Champions League.
“We have got another record: the first team to retain the Champions League and the top scorer in the tournament. What more could I ask?
“I will now try to make the most of this unique moment in my career and then prepare for international duty with Portugal. Another Ballon d’Or? We’ll see.”
