Crystal Palace had reportedly agreed a £12.5million fee for the Brazilian international playmaker, who has 11 caps for the Samba Boys.

The 26-year-old was offered a four-year deal worth £8.4m, according to TMW, but he snubbed the opportunity of a move to the Premier League to stay in his homeland.

A number of sides in Italy and France have been chasing the exciting South American, but he has rejected all proposals as he does not want to leave Brazil at this stage of his career.

Pardew was desperate to bring in a midfielder before the close of the transfer window.

He believed he had tied up a loan deal for Arsenal’s Wilshere before Bournemouth beat him to the England star’s signature.

Free agent Mathieu Flamini is now being lined up by Palace.
