In the race itself Bora-Hansgrohe’s Sam Bennett, of Ireland, had to settle for another third-placed finish as Elia Viviani, of Quick-Step Floors, sealed his second consecutive win in the event.

But it was what went on alongside the route on stage three in Israel that caused the biggest stir on social media.

The female cycling fan gave TV viewers a surprise as the peloton, including Britain’s Chris Froome, weaved its way past her barrier.

As she waved to the riders – or maybe it was one in particular – she also gave them an eyeful.

Cyclists could have been forgiven if they were distracted by the young lady

And “Wonder why the camera man set himself up for this shot?”

Mat Wragg wrote: “The commentator missed it first time when the breakaway passed, talking about bidons. There’s a lesson for cyclists somewhere in there, I suspect… ”

Said Adrian Swall: “Riders out of focus, can’t understand it!”

Elsewhere it was a case of “Shapo to the beautiful breasts of Israel” and “I thought tomorrow was the first breast day.”

Along with “Well spotted – I was looking at the bikes.”

In the Giro d’Italia itself Bennett was in the lead with a kilometre to go but Viviani showcased his impressive power once again to close in before the final corner and cross the finish line first.
