Belgian team Lotto-Soudal member Marczynski, 34, said:  “Three weeks in altitude done. Looks like my legs are ready for ardens classics.”

Marczynski is not the first to show off the changes in their legs caused by cycling for hours every day.

Pawel Poljanski revealed to the world his veiny pins during the Tour de France last year.

Chris Froome and Bartosz Huzarski also posted pictures of their legs in 2014 with veins throbbing out of their legs.

Dr Bradley Launikonis, from the University of Queensland’s School of Biomedical Science, has explained the cyclist’s legs get so veiny due to the amount of blood flowing.

Dr Launikonis said: “The amount of blood normally going down to our legs is five litres per minute.

“For an untrained athlete, maximum exercise will have 20 litres per minute.

“These elite cyclists will have double that, about 40 litres per minute. The blood can pool there too and that’s what’s happening in this extreme case.”
