Dan Carter issues grovelling apology after failing drink-driving test


DAN CARTER has issued a grovelling apology after being caught drink-driving.

The former All Blacks star was forced to respond to media reports that he tested positive for boozing on Wednesday night.

The two-time World  Cup-winning No10, 34, currently plays for Racing 92 just north of Paris and is thought to have been stopped while driving near the Champs Elysses in the city centre.

The Kiwi had tweeted a picture of himself at Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening where he had watched PSG trounce Barcelona 4-0 the previous day.

Carter, a three-time World Player of the Year, said: “I am sure a lot of you have seen the headlines.

“No excuses – I made a massive error of judgement and have let down my club, my fans and most importantly my family.

“I will have to now let the police/court process run its course and face the consequences. I am just glad no one was harmed. Sorry.”

Carter could now face a driving ban, with the punishment ranging from two years in the slammer to an on-the-spot fine.

He was cleared of breaching anti-doping rules last October after reports emerged of a positive doping test.
