Darren Till loses 30 per cent of UFC fight purse for missing weight for Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson

DARREN TILL lost 30 per cent of his UFC purse for missing weight for his hometown fight with Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson – just weeks after boasting about eating cake.

The welterweight was 3.5lbs over the limit for the Sunday showdown but after some intense talks the main event will go ahead at a big cost to the British MMA star.

American ace Thompson will now get another boost to his pocket and Till is banned from weighing anything above 188lbs by 1pm on Sunday.

In the build-up to the fight, Till told the BBC: “Two weeks ago I was at a birthday party and there was cake there.

“Listen I don’t give a f*** if I’m two days or three weeks out, if you put pieces of cake in front of me I’m eating it!

“So I ate 2 pieces of cake & I had two glasses of coke.”

On Friday, Till looked drained and admitted he still had a mountain to climb.

The 25-year-old told BT Sport: “My mind is on the weight cut now, I just want to get the weight done now.

“Everyone knows I have a big cut, I have to shed them kilos.

“I am on target, I am definitely going to make weight, I know that. I have a few more kilos to go. I am in great shape and it is all down to hard work.”

Till revealed backstage that his pregnant girlfriend had been in hospital during the week and claimed he had offered Thompson all of his purse by way of an apology.
