DARTS star Darren Webster suffered a broken nose after being HEADBUTTED by a football thug as he left the Players Championship in Barnsley.

The world no.17 left the venue and walked back to his hotel after being eliminated by German ace Max Hopp 6-5 in their last-32 clash.

But Webster, 49, and pals were confronted by football fans leaving the Barnsley’s Yorkshire derby clash at home to Sheffield United.

‘The Demolition Man’ was assaulted by one thug, leaving him with blood streaming from his nose.

He told SunSport: “We were just on the way back to the hotel when about four blokes ran up to us.

“They said ‘Are you Sheffield fans’? I said ‘No mate, I’m a darts player from Norwich’.

“As I went to unzip my jacket to show him by darts shirt, he headbutted me full on the nose.

“Him and his young mates then ran straight off.

“I didn’t flinch when he headbutted me and I don’t think that helped because I took the full force I guess.

“There was blood everywhere and the police came straight over. There was obviously a big police presence because the football ground was nearby. They must have been Barnsley fans.

“The police are now saying they are looking at CCTV football to try and find this bloke for an unprovoked attack. He was about mid-40s and bald. He couldn’t have been that tall because I’m only a little bloke.”

Webster has vowed to play on in Sunday’s Players Championship despite the injury.

He added: “My nose is bust, no doubt. I reckon I will wake up tomorrow with a couple of black eyes because of a mindless thug.

“There’s no point going to hospital because they’ll just tell me it’s broken and to go home.

“I’m going to play on Sunday, I’m not going to let some idiot stop me.”
