David Haye underwhelms boxing fans with his ‘huge announcement’ after confirming Joe Joyce’s boxing debut vs Ian Lewison


JOE JOYCE has been thrown into the deep end on his boxing debut and will take on Ian Lewison.

The Great British boxer, who won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics, will have his first professional bout on October 20 at the age of 32.

Another two fights will take place on the undercard at the O2 Arena in London including a British title fight between John O’Donnell vs Tamuka Mucha.

Undefeated MMA fighter Michael Page will make his pro boxing debut with Willy Hutchinson also fighting although their opponents are not yet known.

Former heavyweight champ David Haye caused speculation amongst his fans that he is set to return to the ring when he said of a “huge announcement” at a press conference in London.

Haye hasn’t fought since his tore his achilles in the title defeat to Tony Bellew last March.

But his fans were left somewhat underwhelmed with the announcement of Joyce’s confirmed ten-round scrap.

One twitter follower said: “what is this, getting me hyped for nothing.”

Another keen boxing follower said: “Talk about anti climatic I set my alarm for this.”

Haye added Joyce to his promotional company Hayemaker in July on a two-year deal believing he can follow in his footsteps and become a world heavyweight champion.

Haye said: “He will become a world champion. The heavyweight division better watch out.”

Joyce’s first opponent will head into the bout with 12 wins and three losses.
