I AM not going to lie. When I heard that David Moyes was about to become our manager and I
tweeted “Welcome Moyes” as the third goal went in against Liverpool I said it with
sarcastic dread.
Whilst there was no question that Bilic definitely had to go after Saturday’s Liverpool shambles, I just didn’t think Moyes matched the ambitions that we should be showing and had been promised by our chairman.
Surely we could attract someone better who hadn’t failed in his last three jobs was my initial thought.
But the more I’ve thought about it since his actual appointment on Tuesday, the more I now believe that for this moment he is the right man.
We were told our board approached a number of top managers who told us they would not want to
leave their current clubs until the summer, which left us with a list of managers who were not in
employment.
Former West Ham bosses Pardew, Redknapp and Allardyce were said to be in the running along with a number of other managers, but out of all these options I can see why Moyes was chosen.
He has been given a two-and-a-half year contract with a six-month break clause at the end of the
season, with an apparent basic wage of £10k a week and a rumoured £2million bonus if we stay up.
This gives him a huge incentive to do well to earn a new contract and increase his wage but more importantly repair his reputation as a good Premier League manager which he held at Everton.
FOUR PLAY David Moyes already has a plan for turning around West Ham’s season
There is no question that this is make or break for his career and reputation.
Keeping us in the Premier League is his target and anything on top of that will be a bonus.

Should he do that he will probably be offered our job on a longer-term basis, or be in a strong position to take another Premier League role.
If, heaven forbid, we get relegated, he would never get a decent job again.
The alarming weaknesses under Slaven Bilic were the training sessions and consequently the fitness
of the players.
Already I have heard, from a number of players, that one of Moyes’ training sessions is the equivalent of three Bilic sessions and that some of the players (many senior ones) have been left absolutely knackered by them – which is exactly what they needed.
He has also stated if you are not fit you will not play and immediately our holiday camp training sessions seem to have a purpose.
I have also been told that he is prepared to give players who had fallen out with Bilic and the academy players a chance to prove themselves, and that any player has as much chance as the man next to him to get in the starting XI.
They have to earn their right through training and match performance rather than their personality.
Every person in the club who I have spoken to has said he and Alan Irvine have been a breath of
fresh air. And if we pull off the appointment of Stuart Pearce when negotiations begin at the end of
this week then that for me will be an amazing appointment.

Whatever our fans are feeling about the appointment we need to now put these aside, give David
Moyes the chance to make his mark on the club and keep us in the Premier League.
We can then reassess the situation in the summer.
We should support our team through good times and bad and at least give the new manager a chance because let’s be honest, things can only get better.
