The 39-year-old, who is a co-owner at the American club, showed his class with a fine set piece in the United Soccer League fixture (USL)- America’s second tier.

The knuckleball freekick, which left Galaxy’s reserve keeper Clement Diop looking helpless, took Drogba’s season tally to five.

The video was uploaded onto Phoenix Rising’s Twitter page and has already gained nearly  200 likes.

The post was captioned: "Halftime. 2-0 First-half highlights brought to you by Didier Drogba's right foot. #RisingAsOne."

The strike even drew praise from the opposition coach, who said: "He was a world class player in his day, I thought we did a decent job in neutralising him for the most part.

"But obviously the free kick was top shelf and sometimes you just have to tip your hat."

Drogba scored 157 goals in 341 matches during his first spell at Chelsea between 2004 and 2012.

He helped the Blues to win three Premier League titles and the Champions League during that time.

He made a return to Chelsea for the 2014-15 season and scored seven times in 40 matches to help them win the league again.

After the game, the former Ivory Coast international, who won the Champions League with Chelsea, told a Phoenix Rising reporter: "These are the things you need to try, and when you try it there’s more chance for you to score.

"This is something that you work on in training. But I’m really proud of the boys. The way we worked today was fantastic, and I’m really happy with the result."
