Diego Costa, David De Gea, Fernando Torres and a host of world-famous footballers sign shirts for auction to support the widows of the tragic Chapecoense victims


THE world of football has once again flocked to Chapecoense’s aid, with some of the biggest names in the sport revealing a touching gesture.

Superstars such as Diego Costa, David De Gea, Fernando Torres and Kaka have all signed their club shirt – complete with message – to be auctioned off.

The money raised will go straight to supporting the widows of those who tragically lost their lives in the Colombia plane crash last year.

The atrocious incident in November saw 71 players and club members die, with the world rushing to support the stricken side.

Now, with the club back on the pitch – even winning their first match since the incident, 2-1 against Inter de Lages – the attention has turned back to the victims’ families.

And some of the biggest names in football have played their part, as the shirts will shortly go on sale on Brazilian website bazarsports.com in order to raise money for the families of the deceased.

On his shirt, Manchester United goakeeper De Gea wrote: “A hug and all my support. We will never forget you. Forza Chape.”

A total of 19 widows will receive every penny of the money raised, with hopes high that a substantial sum will be collected.

Meanwhile, Umbro recently revealed a special edition football boot to go on sale to help rebuild the lives of the families hit by the plane crash.

Incredibly, one survivor Jackson Follman, said he wants to play football again, despite losing a leg in the incident.

The goalkeeper is hoping to have a chance to play Paralympic football as he continues his recovery.
