DIMITRI PAYET is in danger of missing the World Cup after being forced off injured in the Europa League final.
Marseille’s key player was in floods of tears as he appeared to hurt his hamstring during the clash with Atletico Madrid.
Payet is an important player for France and looked set to be in Didier Deschamps’ 23-man squad for the World Cup finals in Russia.
However, the experienced playmaker looked absolutely distraught as he left the pitch.
And should a hamstring injury be confirmed, Payet could be looking at six weeks on the sidelines – ruling him out of action for his country.
Payet has been the driving force behind Marseille’s journey to the Europa League final, leading the competition’s assist charts with seven in 11 matches.

He is best known by English fans as West Ham’s star man during a whirlwind 18 months in East London.
The Hammers snapped up Payet from Marseille in the summer of 2015, and he became a firm fan favourite by making 60 appearances in all competitions.

However, he famously went on strike when his former side came calling in January 2017.
And should Payet ever return to the London Stadium, he may not find the welcome as warm as he was once used to.
