DIEGO FORLAN was a Manchester United player from 2002-2004 and made quite a name for himself at Old Trafford.
In the first instance it was because he missed so many chances having arrived from Independiente for £6.9million and with a big reputation.
But the Uruguyan, now 39, eventually won over both United boss Alex Ferguson and the fans, and became a popular member of the team.
He won the Premier League with United in 2002-03 and the FA Cup the following year.
Forlan only scored 17 goals in 37 starts and a further 61 appearances as sub for United… but things soon improved.
In 2004 he signed for Villarreal and knocked in 54 goals in 106 matches.
Then he fired 74 goals in 134 outings for Atletico Madrid, going on to play for Inter Milan, and then Osaka, Penarol, Mumbai City and Kitchee in the Far East and on the sub-continent.
But is Diego Forlan still playing?
He’d like to. Forlan is currently a free agent after leaving Hong Kong side Kitchee in May. The goals never dried up – he netted five times in seven games for the HK Premier League club.
What’s he like as a player?
Technically gifted, hardworking and creative player, with an eye for goal.
Forlan always had a good eye for goal, and is a decent free-kick and penalty-taker.
He also exuded bags of energy and was constantly praised for his leadership and determination.
