Dynamo Dresden 2 Everton 1: Lacklustre Toffees beaten by German second division side despite wonderful Gerard Deulofeu free kick


EVERTON lost 2-1 to German second tier side Dynamo Dresden as wantaway defender John Stones played 70 minutes.

Ronald Koeman‘s Toffees went behind to Niklas Hauptmann’s goal after 14 minutes before Gerard Deulofeu made it three goals in as many pre-season games by firing in a wonderful free-kick from the edge of the area.

After the break, Everton had chances to extend their lead after the break but were punished when Pascal Testroet was given time and space on the edge of the area to fire beyond past Maarten Stekelenburg to make it 2-1.

There is no rest for the wicked as the tourists play Real Betis tomorow in the tri-team tournament alongside Werder Bremen.

Wantaway defender John Stones started the game at the DDV-Stadion and put in an accomplished performance amid his Manchester Ctiy transfer saga until he was replaced by Mason Holgate with 21 minutes to go.

Deulofeu had a golden chance to force the game to a penalty shoot-out with two minutes remaining but took too many touches and eventually saw his effort smothered by Dresden’s goalkeeper.

The Blues could not find any fluency with their laboured displaying leaving Koeman visibly annoyed on the touchlines.
