Eden Hazard aims dig at Group G rivals England as Chelsea star says Belgium’s Golden Generation will not fail like the Three Lions


EDEN HAZARD has taken a cheeky dig at England, saying: Belgium’s Golden Generation will not fail like yours.

The Three Lions had a star-studded team between 2002 and 2006 but ended up losing in the quarter- finals of three successive major tournaments.

Belgium are among the favourites to win the World Cup in Russia.

And Chelsea’s Hazard, 27, said: “We know what we are. We are good players, we all play in the big games in England, in Italy and in Spain.

“Ten years or 15 years ago, you had this golden generation in England but you won nothing.

“Now I think the fans, journalists, all of Belgium, the country just wants to win something.

Hazard smiled: “I am used to that in England! It is something I know. I like to be kicked!”

Hazard is most looking forward to the Red Devils’ clash with England, where he could come up against team-mate Gary Cahill.

Hazard added: “Playing England will be special because we know all their players.

“I know Gaz especially and it will be good to play against friends.

“England would have been favourites in the past but now it is different.

“I think we are quite the same — it is 50-50. England have a lot of good players but so do we.”
