England boost over Arsene Wenger as Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis says the Gunners aren’t only about the Frenchman
ENGLAND have been offered a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Arsene Wenger.
Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis last night insisted: “Arsenal is not Arsene Wenger. They’re not one in the same thing.”
His comments will boost the FA’s hopes of landing long-term target Wenger, with the Arsenal manager already admitting he could be tempted by the job ‘one day’.
But FA chiefs remain big fans of Frenchman Wenger, 66, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Gazidis claims there is no rush to tie him down to a new deal.
He added: “Arsene’s been clear and we’ve always been clear, that’s a mutual decision as to how long he’ll continue.
“Both need to be on the same page on that.
“In a football sense he transformed the club. But from a value standpoint, we’ve been doing work in our local community for 30 years, before Arsene came to the club.”
