GARETH SOUTHGATE is out to stop England being up the World Cup creek without a paddle by getting advice from CANOEISTS.
The Three Lions boss is tapping into the success of other sports to help the nation’s summer glory bid in Russia.
Southgate has already sought advice from coaches in rugby union, rugby league, cricket, cycling, boxing and swimming on how they get the best from their athletes.
Now he has spoken to those involved in Great Britain’s successful canoeing efforts as he searches for information to give England an ‘oarsome’ advantage in the tournament.
His meetings have been part of the UK Sport Elite Programme, which aims to develop coaches to the highest level.
Southgate has also been in touch with Steve Borthwick from England rugby and the coaches of Olympic heroes, swimmer Adam Peaty and cyclist Laura Trott.
