England cricket gives Roy Hodgson’s boys advice on how to beat the Aussies

IT never looks good when England lose to Australia in a sporting event.

Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions took on their cousins from down under in a friendly at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light last week.

Defeat to Ange Postecoglou’s side would be nothing short of disastrous, but luckily for Wayne Rooney and Co, England cricket’s official Twitter account was on hand to provide some useful pointers ahead of their second Test against Sri Lanka in Durham.

Alastair Cook’s men stormed their way to a devastating Ashes win in 2015 and were no doubt keen to share some pearls of wisdom under the trend #TogetherForEngland.

In a series of exchanges, @englandcricket provided @England with four key tips on how to get the better of their antipodean rivals.

Tip number one was to ‘strike nice and early’, prompting a response showing Harry Kane finding the back of the net in the recent win over Turkey.

Tip number two was ‘make runs’, with England football replying with some footage of Jamie Vardy making a darting sprint behind a Turkish defender.

Tip three was ‘find a way through their defence’, with the response showing Dele Alli ripping apart Turkey’s backline with a sublime nutmeg to Tottenham team-mate Kane.

The final tip was slightly easier, with England cricket tweeting: “Finally, if you win make sure to celebrate appropriately!”

The end of the rather cringeworthy exchange saw both teams wish each other luck for their respective matches, but Twitter users were not impressed with the evidently pre-arranged ‘banter’.

One replied: “I wish I could go back in time to stop myself reading this.”

Another said: “Haha nice chat lads time to deactivate.”

Whether England cricket’s pointers have any effect on Friday’s match against the Aussies remains to be seen, but if the likes of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford can inspire the Three Lions to their own cricket score, nobody will be complaining.
