Winks has represented England at youth levels but would be allowed to switch allegiances as he has yet to make his senior debut in Gareth Southgate’s side.

The midfielder has made just two Premier League starts this season but has come off the bench 17 times throughout the campaign.

And Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino rates Winks very highly, believing he could rise to the very top throughout his career.

England’s FA have already attempted to lure the likes of Frenchman Steven N’Zonzi to play for the Three Lions and are in a battle to convince Celtic’s wonderkid Karamoko Dembele to turn down Scotland for England.

But Winks will be solely focusing on establishing himself in Pochettino’s first-team having penned a new long-term deal last month.

England have a double header of fixtures approaching against old rivals Germany on March 22 before taking on Lithuania four days later.
