Days later another strike zapped an outbuilding housing his gym, sparking a fire which took crews six hours to put out.

And it emerged the 21-year-old, injured playing against Brazil last night, had survived a bolt which hit a window he was looking out of as a boy 12 years ago.

A source said: “He may have struggled getting game time for Chelsea, but he’s certainly got his luck on other things.

“They say lightning doesn’t strike twice but this proves it strikes thrice.”

Ruben, on loan to Crystal Palace, lives in the five-bed place in Cobham, Surrey, with mum Juliette. She said: “It’s a bit shocking to have two strikes in a week.”
