Euro 2016: The nation celebrates as Twitter reacts to England’s thrilling 2-1 win over Wales courtesy of sub Daniel Sturridge

ENGLAND stars have taken to social media basking in the light of their 2-1 win over Wales.

Daniel Sturridge was England’s main man after scoring a last-gasp winner in the 91st minute, securing a vital win for the Three Lions in their Euro 2016 group stage clash.

Players including Jamie Vardy, Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford were also in good form as Roy Hodgson’s lads put themselves in a strong position for the knockout stages, although some such as Harry Kane enjoyed less-productive outings.

But all involved with England’s win have been making their feelings know on Twitter and Instagram, with Sturridge in particular thrilled by his late impact.

Football fans were also quick to have their say on Twitter, with Sturridge and Vardy praised after coming off the bench at half time.

Many believe that the duo deserve to start in place of Kane and Raheem Sterling against Slovakia, and Roy Hodgson has a number of tricky decision to make before Monday.

Manchester United youngster Rashford was also praised for his impact as England chased a winner, with Tottenham’s Kane coming under a lot of flak.

Dan Walker said: “Vardy and Sturridge will get the headlines but what about Rashford? Cool, unflustered and playing without fear.”

Matt Craig added: “What a mad game man, Kane just can’t start after that.”

But one player who stood out from the rest was captain Rooney, with Cardiff City ace Anthony Pilkington tweeting: “Rooney was just like Pirlo today, everything was beautiful apart from his hair. Pulling strings!”

Eddie Hearn said: “That was squeaky bum time – not good enough but got the win – fair play to Rooney – he covered every blade of grass there.”

Joey Barton added: “Rooney was superb again. Kyle Walker also excellent. Joe Hart got away with one. Sterling needs a rest and by the looks of it Kane also.”
