He was seen arriving in Miami on Wednesday afternoon before a short flight up to Washington DC straight after.

Rooney struggled to command a place in Sam Allardyce’s team during 2018.

And he has been given the green light to leave the Premier League for America despite Allardyce’s Goodison Park exit.

Rooney was decked out in a dark hoodie and baseball cap as he marched through the Miami International terminal for his connecting flight to the capital.

He was then given the VIP treatment with a concierge buggy, which quickly whizzed him to his departure gate.

Rooney is expected to head straight for talks and a medical with DC United as he looks to get his future sorted as quickly as possible.

The Americans are reportedly willing to match Rooney’s £300,000-a-week wage demands.

And the ex-England captain will meet with chief Jason Levin and general manager Dave Kasper before being given a tour of the city and United’s new stadium, Audi Field.

Rooney has been locked in talks with the MLS strugglers since the start of May, but a fee is yet to be agreed as Everton hold out for £7.5million.
