Ex-Arsenal star Bacary Sagna set to relaunch career with Serie A minnows Benevento

BACARY SAGNA is set to relaunch his career… with the worst team in Italian top flight history.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City defender has been a free agent since leaving the Etihad last summer.

Now France international Sagna is in talks with Serie A newcomers Benevento, who are bottom of the table and 11 points adrift of safety.

Reports in Italy claim the 34-year-old is due to have a medical with the Campania club in the next few days.

Benevento set a record by losing their opening 14 league games before drawing 2-2 with AC Milan last month – thanks to an injury-time header from their goalkeeper!

They finally won at the 19th attempt, beating Chievo 1-0, but Roberto De Zerbi’s side still face a huge task to survive.

But they have already signed five new players this month, and could even recruit Sagna outside the transfer window due to his free-agent status.

The right-back won the 2014 FA Cup with Arsenal, and the League Cup with City two years later.

Benevento won promotion via the play-offs last season.

Their squad includes on-loan Newcastle and Morocco defender Achraf Lazaar, 25.

Based near Naples, the 89-year-old club folded in 2005 only to re-form that same year.
