The France international – a £22million from Manchester United last year – has come under fire from his own fans.

Under contract until 2021, Schneiderlin insists Everton will be his last Premier League club.  He has made 32 appearances this season.

Born in Alsace, eastern France, the playmaker began his career with Strasbourg.

He spent seven seasons with Southampton before United paid £25m for him in 2015.

Schneiderlin has the same agent as Marseille coach Rudi Garcia.

He told French TV: “My favourite clubs in France are Strasbourg, as I am from their local area.

“But when I was young I was always a Marseille fan.  If I am to leave Everton I would love to take on a different challenge to the Premier League.

“I have already played for Southampton, Manchester United and Everton, and I can’t see myself going elsewhere in England.

“I have three years left on my contract.  We will see if Everton still want me, and if I want to stay.

“I have ambitions – and I want to enjoy myself out on the pitch.”
