FA to crackdown on diving with two-match ban for cheats… starting with first match of 2017/18 season

THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION is cracking down on cheats by introducing two-match bans for diving.

And the new law will come into effect from this Friday with the Championship’s first game.

Repeat offenders will also face an extra one-match ban for each additional offence.

The ban for duping officials with simulation will only apply in cases where it resulted in a penalty or a player being dismissed.

Conversely, players wrongly sent off for two bookable offences will have their bans rescinded if one of the yellows was awarded in error after an opponent dived.

The FA are wary of investigating every incident that could be considered diving.

So they will only review instances with “clear and overwhelming evidence” of a player deceiving a match official.

A pool of up to 14 former referees, managers and players will be used, with one from each set to review each case.
