Ferrari’s F1 team in new crisis as tech chief James Allison walks out – sparking scramble from McLaren, Renault and Red Bull to sign the design whiz

FERRARI have been plunged into a deeper crisis after British design-whizz James Allison walked out.

Technical chief Allison is regarded as one of the best in the F1 paddock and his departure will scramble a fight between Red Bull, Renault and McLaren for his signature.

The Italian team have failed to win the title since 2007 despite committing MILLIONS of pounds to their F1 project.

Allison, who was signed from Lotus three years ago, was helping them move in the right direction but they are still behind leaders Mercedes.

Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene said: “The team would like to thank James for his commitment and sacrifice during the time spent together, and wishes him success and serenity for his future endeavours.”

Allison tragically lost his wife Rebecca to meningitis earlier this year and is believed to be keen to move back to the UK to be near his children.

He said in a statement: “During the years I spent at Ferrari, at two different stages and covering different roles, I could get to know and appreciate the value of the team and of the people, women and men, which are part of it.

“I want to thank them all for the great professional and human experience we shared. I wish everybody a happy future with lots of success.”

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton will reopen his row with Nico Rosberg on Friday when he asked for further clarification on the rules regarding waved double yellow flags.

Hamilton is still cross that Rosberg was allowed to keep his pole in Hungary last week after being cleared of any wrong doing with regard to slowing down.

The world champion will raise the issue at the F1 drivers’ briefing and with race director, Charlie Whiting, ahead of the German Grand Prix this weekend.
