Fifa 17 ratings: Cristiano Ronaldo tops the game’s player ratings for first time in seven years in a row with Messi and Neymar second and third

CRISTIANO RONALDO reigns supreme as the best player on the Fifa games franchise.

It was way back on Fifa 09 when Lionel Messi was last not the best player on the wildly popular game, but the 29-year-old has relinquished his grip.

But Euro 2016 winner Ronaldo has come up trumps with an overall rating of 94 – one better than his arch rival Messi.

Barcelona’s Neymar and Lionel Messi are not far behind in second and third.

Brazilian forward Messi and Neymar could barely be separated on 92 and 93 respectively.

And the trio have yet again set themselves apart as the best three footballers in the world.

EA released the rest of their top ten yesterday with Luis Suarez (92) fourth and Gareth Bale (90) sixth behind Manuel Neuer (92).

Marco Reus will be the global cover star of the upcoming game.

The Borussia Dortmund ace won the honour after a fans’ vote, beating Chelsea’s EdenHazard, Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez.

Makers EA Sports have also announced an overhaul of the set-piece system.

They said: “In FIFA 17 you’ll be in complete control of every dead ball situation.

“The set piece rewrite gives you more creativity, variety and control in the most decisive moments of any match.

“Now you have the freedom to position your player and dictate their approach on dead balls, allowing for a wider variety when taking free kicks and penalties.”
