LIKE Arsene Wenger’s reign at Arsenal, FIFA’s quality has slowly declined for me over the years.
It’s solid season after season, without being spectacular, and reaching the pinnacle of its potential.
FIFA 17 is no different. It has all the hallmarks of a great football game, but something is missing.
The soul in EA Sports’ flagship game doesn’t feel like it’s there.
Despite the addition of the Frostbite engine, and it’s beautifully-enhanced graphics, I feel further away from being a top footballer than ever.

Don’t get me wrong, the game will be loved by many all over the world, and sell by its truck-load.
Unfortunately for me, that’s the only thing to really get excited about in FIFA 17.

Ultimate Team is there, but the same, career mode is there, but the same. Seasons, skills games, and so on...
As I played more fixtures in FIFA 17, I felt less interested by the minute.
The authenticity, and joy of playing as your favourite team, just wasn't there for me this year, it felt worn.
EA Sports know how to make a game, they're geniuses, and definitely one of the best in the business.
But it feels like they're struggling to freshen the FIFA franchise up. It's staler than last night's toast.
Believe me, I'll play it a lot over the next six months, but that's only because I know my friends will be all over it.
But it's just an average game really, and it pains me to say that.
If we're going to make the obvious comparison to Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, it's a no contest for me.
