Fifa set to rap England and Scotland for wearing poppies during World Cup qualifier


FIFA are set to take action against England and Scotland for wearing armbands with poppies during their World Cup qualifier.

The bungling governors of world football warned the countries ahead of the game – with both nations choosing to pay their respects instead.

AP report that disciplinary cases have now been opened, although details have not been specified and they would “speculate on any outcome or provide an estimated timeline.”

Fifa’s laws prohibit religious, political or personal statements during international matches.

 

And there was anger among players and fans after they blocked players from wearing poppies on their shirts.

The FA then confirmed they would wear black armbands bearing poppies for their Wembley clash against the ‘Auld Enemy’ on November 11, which England won 3-0.

Fifa's initial decision left former England captains John Terry and Stuart Pearce in disbelief.

Over 315,000 people signed a Sun petition to let England and Scotland's players wear their poppies with pride.

The most likely outcome is now a fine for both countries.
