FLOYD MAYWEATHER’S fight against Conor McGregor fell almost £13MILLION short of the gate record.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission revealed the fight sold 13,094 tickets producing a gate of £40m.
But the clash was not a sell-out and even though the seats were priced between $500 to $10,000, they could not beat the record set for £53m.
However, they did break the record for PPV buys.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said before the cross-sports match-up that it was on track to beat the £55,369,029 set by Money and Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
He explained: “Right now, we have over 60million (£46m) in the box office.”
Mayweather stopped UFC lightweight champion McGregor in the tenth round of their collision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Speaking after his win, the American – who retired with an historic 50-0 record – claimed the fight had broken the PPV figure he previously set against Pacquiao by £6m.
He said: “We did break the record tonight for the biggest gate. Me and Pacquiao done 72m dollars (£55m), I think we did somewhere over 80m dollars (£61m) for the live gate.”

And the American – thought to now be worth £772M – was correct with his estimation.
Shortly after his mega-money McGregor win, he hit a £78,000 slot machine jackpot in the Las Vegas casinos.
This article previously reported that the Mayweather-McGregor match had not achieved record PPV figures. It has now been amended to make clear it was in fact takings at the gate that did not beat the previous record.
