Football fan needs emergency surgery after he ruptures lung celebrating goal

A FOOTBALL fan ended up having emergency surgery after bursting his lung while screaming ‘goooal’ at the top of his voice after his team had scored.

The young man, who was only identified by his surname – Luo, was watching his team, Chongqing Lifan, play Shijiazhuang Ever Bright in the Chinese Super League.

Identified by his surname Luo, the man from south-western China’s Chongqing city lasted less than 20 minutes into the game before he had to be rushed to hospital after feeling a sharp pain in his back. Luo said he was watching the game between Chongqing Lifan and visiting Shijiazhuang Ever Bright when the home team took the lead after just six minutes at the Chongqing Olympic Sports Center in the Chinese Super League (CSL). Despite the sweltering heat, with temperatures hovering around 37 degrees Celsius that evening, Luo and about 50,000 other went to the match and shouted and celebrated the goal wildly. But around 10 minutes later he felt a tightness in his chest and a shooting pain in his back, and his girlfriend had to call an ambulance for him to be taken to the city’s Daping Hospital, where he arrived with breathing problems and non-stop coughing. Doctors diagnosed Luo with a pneumothorax - a collapsed lung caused by the presence of air in the cavity between the lungs and the chest wall. The footy fan underwent emergency surgery and is now in stable condition. Luo said he had shouted like that before during games without a problem. He believes the heat may be to blame for his injury. After hearing the news that Chongqing Lifan went on to win the game 1-0, Luo said it was worth his burst lung in the end. As one of the world’s up and coming national football leagues, the CSL has seen massive amounts of investment in order to attract quality and marketable players. Former Premier League players Graziano Pelle, Ramires, and Demba Ba – the current CSL top scorer - are among several high-profile footballers who have chosen to ply their trade in the Far East, along with former Zenit Saint Petersburg striker Hulk and Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi.

But around 10 minutes later he felt a tightness in his chest and a shooting pain in his back.

He was rushed to hospital with breathing problems and non-stop coughing.
