The match referee and stewards made public messages telling fans to stop their sick behaviour but they were ignored.

And on the final whistle, Luiz made a one-fingered gesture at the rival fans who had to be restrained by police.

The midfielder told reporters: “I’ve been suffering racist abuse during the entire 90 minutes and also was upset by the home players, who supported that. They were all attacking me.

Serbia's shame

SERBIA were forced to play a match behind closed doors after racially abusing England’s Danny Rose in 2012.

They were also forced to pay £65,000 after violence marred the Under-21s’ match.

A Euro 2012 qualifier against Italy also had to be abandoned in 2010 because of crowd trouble.

Scottish referee Craig Thomson led the players off the field with the score at 0-0 after Serbia fans threw flares and fireworks on to the playing surface.

And the latest shamful scenes involving Serbia were at a Euro 2016 qualifying match against Albania after a drone with a political banner was flown into the stadium.

The game was abandoned with the score goalless after fighting broke out between players, fans and team officials on the pitch of the Partizan Stadium.

“I want to forget this as soon as possible. I love Serbia and the people here, that is why I cried.

“But please say NO to racism!”

Partizan won the game 1-0 to stay second in the table six points behind Red Star Belgrade but the result was marred by the racist chants.

Partizan coach Marko Nikolic said: “It’s a return to the reality of Serbian football.”

He also hinted Luiz was likely to face disciplinary action from the club for his reaction – but urged Serbia’s football authorities to punish Rad’s supporters.

Nikolic added: “Everton should not have reacted but something provoked his outburst, didn’t it?”

Serbian football has seen a resurgence of football hooliganism in recent years with supporters chanting racist abuse at England Under-21 players back in 2012.

And a Euro 2012 qualifier in Genoa had to be abandoned after Serbian fans began rioting leading to Italy being handed a 3-0 victory.
