Football tips: Betting preview by Danny Higginbotham for Manchester United vs Tottenham, Everton vs Newcastle and Derby vs Middlesbrough

Manchester United vs Tottenham

I wrote last week in The Sun about Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba.

They’re getting in each other’s hair in the Man United midfield.

Well, I’m not blowing my own trumpet here, but Pogba played without Sanchez on Wednesday… and he was man of the match.

The key for Jose Mourinho is to work out how to fit them both on the same pitch.

Sanchez got loads of goals and assists in his last season at Barcelona when he played as the right forward.

I think he’ll play there against Spurs and so I’m putting my money where my mouth.

That will let Pogba express himself and make those powerful, attacking runs, and I’m backing him to score any time.

Sorry, Spurs. Your time will come… just not this year.

Everton vs Newcastle

Newcastle will go to Everton and sit deep.

They have been so good defensively this year that they will fancy their chances to shut up shop.

But the deeper you go, the more narrow you become and that will open up the game for Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines.

They both love to get forward and cause problems and I fancy Coleman, on one of his surges forward, to assist Cenk Tosun.

The Turk gets into great positions and is a real threat in the box.

That said, Newcastle deserve some real credit for how they’ve performed this season.

Rafa Benitez has built from the back and made the Toon a defensive powerhouse.

The way I always look at it, your forward thinking players get paid the most money because scoring a goal is the hardest thing
to do in football.

So if defending the easiest thing to do then you concentrate on that. Then you don’t need to score three goals to win a game.

Although if somebody wants to give defenders more money then I’m listening!

Derby vs Middlesbrough

Teams are going hell for leather at each other in the Championship.

I just love it – it’s an unbelievable league.

Derby have fallen away in February and March for the past few seasons now so the fans will have that at the back of their mind.

But they’ve got to keep a clear head.

Middlesbrough will show them respect, sit back and try and soak up the pressure so I can see this one being incredibly tight.

I know from my time with Tony Pulis at Stoke how hard he works on set pieces – in fact, Boro scored from two of them against Bristol City last week.

They are so advantageous for them and I expect Boro to trouble Derby with a few.
