But Border hit out: “I hope he was lying on the table half dead. As captain, I’d not be happy.”

In an entertaining opening session of the First Test between Australia and India in Pune, Renshaw was seen sprinting off the field of play immediately after David Warner was bowled by Umesh Yadav.

After a quick word with captain and incoming No3 Steve Smith, it was announced the opener would be retiring ‘hurt’.

However, it later transpired that Renshaw, 20, was suffering from a severe case of Delhi belly.

Indian opponent Ravi Jadeja quipped: “Matt Renshaw retired hurt, I offered him a spicy combo of Vada Pav and Misal Pav this morning. That did the trick.”
