Lennon would have been in seventh heaven after the 22nd minute, with the Edinburgh outfit racing into a three-goal lead.

Florian Kamberi opened the scoring in the tenth minute, before goals from Scott Allan Maclaren added to Rangers‘ woe.

But the Glaswegians then banged in five times without reply to silence the home crowd.

Maclaren then halved the deficit in the 70th minute, before prodding home his effort in the 93rd minute to spark jubilant scenes from his manager.

Speaking on his celebration, Lennon told BT Sport: “Well I was getting a bit of stick as you can imagine from the Rangers supporters, so I had to give them a bit back.

“I got sent off, but I’ll take it. It was worth it. It was bonkers, absolutely bonkers. But I told you before the game we would go for it.

“We’re 3-0 up up… I can’t believe I’m saying this but we needed the fourth!

“It just sums our season up, just exciting, exhilarating, great football and just really proud of the players and the reporters.”

Hibernian finished the season in fourth spot, three points behind Rangers.
