When asked about the idea behind the product, the 46-year-old said it all started when a photograph of him accidentally flashing his penis while playing a friendly match against Chile in 1993 made international headlines.
After the incident, the footballer said he then became a sex symbol in Colombia and his fame kept on growing after he represented the nation in the 1994 and 1998 World Cup tournaments.
He said the business plan "seemed like a good idea" and added, presumably as a joke, that the current Colombian coach Jose Pekerman had already called him asking if he could get some.
Asprilla jokingly said: "He is going to put the condoms over his head when Colombia is playing a match in Barranquilla in the rain!"
The latex contraceptives are set to be sold in pharmacies and shops across the striker’s home country at a price of £2.15 for three.
Four types are being offered: ultra-thin, lubricated, striped and dotted. All will also have strawberry or chocolate flavours.
The flavours were chosen after a test was conducted on several women in Colombia, who chose them as their favourites.
During his playing days, Faustino Asprilla was known as a quick and skilful player with both power and flair.
He often scored spectacular goals and despite his talent, he was often in the middle of controversies both on and off the pitch.
