FRANCK RIBERY has seemingly slammed France for leaving Karim Benzema out of their World Cup squad following the striker’s latest Champions League success.
Real Madrid superstar Benzema hasn’t played for his country since 2015 following controversial blackmail claims involving former teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
It means Benzema has not been in Didier Deschamps’s thoughts during the last three years, including Euro 2016 when France lost to Portugal in the final.
But as Ribery pointed out in a social media post, the hitman has had the last laugh by winning three successive Champions Leagues during the same period.
Bayern Munich veteran Ribery appeared to be fuming that pal Benzema was once again overlooked for selection by France despite his stunning success at club level.
And having retired from international duty himself following rumours of a rift with Deschamps, Ribery made his feelings perfectly clear on Twitter.
The winger wrote: “They have put a red card against you for three years, but during that time you have managed to win three Champions Leagues. Congratulations Karim Benzema.”
However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Benzema, who scored the opening goal of Real’s 3-1 Champions League final win against Liverpool on Saturday.
LOST BLANCO Man Utd ready to move for Gareth Bale following Real Madrid woes
He may have only netted five times in 32 La Liga games this season, but the ace could be set for a lucrative move away from the Santiago Bernabeu as Real look to shake up their squad this summer.
Meanwhile, Ribery has just signed a one-year contract extension at Bayern and will be hoping to impress new boss Niko Kovac, who takes over from Jupp Heynckes after beating his new side with Frankfurt in the German Cup final.
